Mission
Kinship Foundation breaks the cycle of poverty for underprivileged youth by funding two things sustenance-based charity overlooks: career-building education and financial protection. Anchored in Singapore and extending across Southeast Asia, we fund access to skills training, mentoring, and insurance coverage for students who would otherwise have neither.
A single accident or illness — not lack of food — is what actually pushes a family back into poverty.
Skills and credentials compound across a working lifetime. A one-off gift is consumed in a day; a skill keeps paying out.
Anchored where we operate, extending to where the need is greatest — one model, repeated, not two programmes bolted together.
Why this will work
Across Asia, the research on what actually moves a family out of poverty points the same direction — protection first, then compounding education. This is the evidence behind why Kinship Foundation funds both together.
~100M
people are pushed below the poverty line every year by healthcare payments alone
WHO / systematic review of micro health insurance
90%
of the poor would buy health insurance if they had sufficient income — the barrier is friction, not attitude

42.2%
of adolescents across Indonesia and neighbouring countries reported a serious injury in the past 12 months
Global School-based Health Survey, 4-country study
"Major illness insurance alleviates the vicious cycle of poverty and disease through the mechanism of increasing household income — its effect strengthens over time, with a greater influence on poverty alleviation than other poverty reduction policies."
— Effect of Major Illness Insurance on Vulnerability to Poverty: Evidence from China (CFPS panel data, 2010–2016)
3.09%
reduction in poverty rates for every 1% increase in education spending as a share of GDP
Education investment is structurally deflationary for poverty in a way one-off aid is not — because skills compound across a working lifetime, not a single day.
Sponsor pays for a student's first year of protection. By the time renewal is due, the policy is already active — cancelling requires action, not just inaction.
"If 500 students get started on insurance and protection, there is a higher chance they won't close it once the policy is issued."
— on the same logic as buying a child's life insurance for the first four years
About Kinship Foundation
We believe most charity has focused on keeping people fed. We believe the more powerful, more overlooked lever is protection.
So Kinship Foundation funds two things together — career-building education and financial protection — for underprivileged youth who would otherwise have access to neither.
Anchored in Singapore, our programmes extend across Southeast Asia — funding skills platforms, mentoring, and insurance coverage at under-resourced institutions.
Behind this work is a community of people who've chosen to stay close to the cause, channelling their engagement into direct, named support for the students we serve.

Our Activities
We fund access to a career-development and skills platform for students at partner institutions.
We fund insurance coverage for every student in our programme — accident protection in Indonesia, term life coverage in Singapore.
Students are paired with mentors from our community of professionals and entrepreneurs — structured, ongoing relationships.
We work directly with under-resourced institutions, reaching entire cohorts rather than a handful of students.
Small, curated trips that build the relationships that sustain the Foundation's work — they are not the Foundation's purpose. See upcoming trips →
Every donor's contribution is recorded permanently and publicly, updated annually.
It is infrastructure for the climb — installed once, built to keep working.
